With smartphones strapped to their bodies, four athletic performers move symbiotically to create the audio and visual landscape of Wireless. Created by multi-award winning artists Paul Charlier and Lisa Wilson, this stunning new poly-media work is at the cutting edge of where technology meets live performance.
Using the inherent capacity of smartphone technology to track user’s movement in time and space, the performers interact with smart devices, video, sound and lighting to create a piece that questions our relationship with our smart devices.
Paul Charlier and Californian techno-whiz Joshua Minor have created an app which translates realtime information into light and sound. Lisa Wilson, working with dramaturg Jennifer Flowers, creates stunning visual narratives with dancer’s intersection of this technology. The result is a musing on human connectedness, or rather the lack of it in our brave new digital age.
Graduates of QUT’s dance school, Gabriel Comerford and Storm Helmore are joined by distinguished performers Craig Bary & Joshua Thomson on a moving set designed by Bruce McKinven.
Sydney-based composer Paul Charlier has created music for some of the world leading international directors including Meryl Tankard, Gale Edwards, Kate Champion, Neil Armfield and Max Stafford-Clark for stage and film.
Brisbane-based Lisa Wilson is a giant of Australian dance, having worked with top companies here and abroad. Highlights in her career include The Australian Ballet, Sydney Dance Company and the renowned Rambert in the UK. Lisa’s recent collaboration with Opera Queensland saw her choreographing work at GOMA while her last major independent work LAKE premiered in a sell-out season at the Judith Wright Centre and went on to a large national tour.
Wireless runs 15 – 17 June at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts
