“I have been attending this conference for many years now and it just keeps getting better and better. If you wish to meet other like minded individuals who have a passion for dance education, this is the conference for you.”

"It was my first year at the conference and I loved it!

From the moment I entered the beautiful QB building I was greeted by friendly delegates who all tried to get to know me by having lovely conversations.

The welcome to Country was really special, the talk with Leanne Benjamin was interesting, the workshops were fantastic. All presenters and staff were outstanding. I even won a lucky door prize of a Bloch drink bottle that I have not stopped using.

I’ll be back!"

“Absolutely loved attending and being part of the conference. The sessions I found were very relevant to what we are facing when teaching dance in schools. Definitely got me thinking about taking the leap and creating a connection with our local First Nations tribe and creating a community with them.”

"It was great to meet people from other schools in the area and be able to chat with the Ausdance people from Brisbane. The practical component was fantastic and would love to see more practical work in the future just to stimulate new ideas. Hearing from the QCAA was very helpful too. It was wonderful that this experience could come to Cairns. Please come again."

letters of support

testimonials

Over the last five years, Ausdance QLD has transformed as a responsive, responsible peak body for dance, delivering high quality sector support . They understand how to listen, how to communicate and how to represent. When I first met with Julie Englefield, I explained the sector’s critical need for advocacy. We needed a stronger voice to address critical needs in the sector. As one of Australia’s premier contemporary dance companies based in Townsville, Dancenorth values Ausdance QLD’s respect for and engagement with regional communities, and continual promotion of the work and needs of companies working across vast regional areas. They have advocated for funding and systemic support with a variety of government and non-government stakeholders, and provide our staff and the community with professional development, resources, and network opportunities. We have seen the strong impact on business capability (including delivering training and resources for improved child safety, workplace health and safety and business management) they’ve made in Townsville’s substantial dance community; across private studios, schools and First Nations Cultural groups.   Importantly, I feel confident any of the management, Board or staff of Dancenorth can call on Ausdance QLD for advice, support, information or specific resources to support our work, and we know they will deliver promptly and accurately to meet our needs. Their work supports our work, in all its forms.
Hillary Coyne
Executive Director / Co CEO Dancenorth Australia
"The performing arts, and dance in particular, face ongoing challenges in remaining vibrant and accessible in Queensland. Despite the profound impact dance has in shaping young artists into future performers and professionals in related fields, there is little recognition or acknowledgment of its value. Schools and colleges work tirelessly to develop talent, yet they struggle to find affordable, accessible venues where young dancers can showcase their work, engage in vital performance experience or opportunities to gain employment. The lack of venues, available dates, and the prohibitive costs of existing venues create significant barriers, not only for creating production opportunities, but limits opportunities for students and educators alike. Ausdance Queensland is a crucial advocate for our community, ensuring that these challenges are addressed and that the next generation of artists has the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Operational funding will enable Ausdance to continue this vital work, whilst also ensuring dance remains a cornerstone of Queensland’s cultural identity. Ausdance Queensland plays a vital role in supporting and advocating for the diverse and vibrant dance community across the state. From regional and remote areas to our city hubs, Ausdance serves as a cornerstone for artists, educators, and businesses alike. Its commitment to uplifting First Nations voices, multicultural communities, and independent dancers and producers ensures that every facet of Queensland’s dance ecosystem is represented and empowered. Operational funding from the Queensland Government will enable Ausdance to continue providing essential services, resources, and opportunities to its members—whether they are freelance teachers, small businesses, or emerging artists—ensuring the dance sector thrives for years to come. With Ausdance at the helm, Queensland’s dance community will remain connected, supported, and inspired."

"As a long-standing pillar in the arts sector, Ausdance QLD’s tireless dedication to championing the interests of dancers, choreographers, educators, and industry professionals has had a profound and lasting impact. In times of challenge and uncertainty, particularly throughout the recent global events, Ausdance QLD has consistently been a beacon of support and guidance. Their team’s ability to navigate complex and often overwhelming situations, while ensuring the voices of dancers and the broader dance community are heard, has been invaluable. From providing timely updates and crucial information to facilitating workshops and providing professional development opportunities, they have ensured that dancers and artists are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and resilience to persevere. It is no small feat to act as a strong and unwavering voice for the dance community, and Ausdance QLD does this with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and passion. Through their advocacy, dancers have been able to continue their craft, knowing they have a supportive organization fighting for their best interests behind the scenes. "
