Curriculum Conversations for Teachers: Preparing Students for the QCAA General Dance External Exam

Ausdance Educators QLD (AEQ) invite you to a Dance Dialogues: Curriculum Conversations for Teachers event, focussed on preparing students for the external Dance exam. This FREE sharing-of-practice session will be held in-person at the Thomas Dixon Centre in Brisbane, or online via Zoom, on Sunday, 28th July (Term 3, start of Week 4).

This informal event, facilitated by the AEQ committee, is designed for teachers who are, will be or have been involved in preparing Year 12 students for the external Dance exam for the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s (QCAA) General Dance syllabus. Participants will share their preparation approaches, strategies, resources and experiences which will complement and expand your own external exam preparation pedagogy. Sharing topics for the two-and-a-half-hour event include:

• Analytical essay structure and writing practice

• Dance concepts and skills understanding and utilisation

• Unit planning and teaching strategies for sustained student engagement

Please BYO resources that you are willing to share with other participants, including:

• one or more external exam-linked, and/or responding, practical tasks

• one or more external exam writing practice, and/or responding, tasks

• your external exam preparation unit plan/schedule.

As child safety legislation in Queensland undergoes significant changes, it's crucial for all organisations working with children, including those involved in dance activities, to comply with the new Child Safe Standards. This webinar will guide you through the necessary steps to ensure your compliance, including the documentation and evidence required.

• Compliance Requirements: Detailed information on the documentation and evidence you need to provide.

Over the past three years, a majority of our members have highlighted the need for improved child safety regulations. We've listened and worked hard to represent your concerns. Now, we're here to help you adapt to these new standards with minimal stress.

Gain unique insights into fostering inclusion within dance, as we hear from experts representing arts administration, legal leadership, and cultural advocacy.

Together, we'll unravel the challenges and opportunities surrounding inclusivity and diversity in dance, exploring ideas to foster more equitable and welcoming dance environments.

This panel discussion is hosted by Ausdance QLD and presented as part of DANCE24, an experimental dance festival from 22 May - 1 June.

Queensland Dance Education Conference 2023 is a one-day professional development event for dance educators and teachers in QLD, produced by Ausdance QLD in association with our Ausdance Educators QLD subcommittee at the Thomas Dixon Centre in Brisbane.

The purpose of QDEC23 is to challenge, enrich and educate dance teaching professionals. In 2023, the scope of the conference includes learning content for primary, middle, and secondary dance educators in all schooling sectors, and independent studio & freelance teachers.

You’ll listen to speeches, panel discussions and presentations (both of creative works and on current issues in dance education) and actively participate in practical dance classes. There is a focus on integrating grassroots First Nations perspectives and addressing the key curriculum requirement of embedding First Nations perspectives into teaching in schools.

Some sessions of QDEC23 will be webcast for regional participants and a resource pack - pending Cultural ownership, copyright, acknowledgement, and permissions – may be provided by presenters.
