QDEC23 Dance:Life
Each year, when programming the Queensland Dance Education Conference, we refer to our members’ needs and feedback from previous years to guide us. A resounding number of QDEC22 participants asked us to facilitate greater knowledge and experiences to support ‘embedding First Nations Cultural Perspectives’ into their curriculum. We spend a lot of time individually and organisationally listening, learning and participating in First Nations Community activities so we hope to be able to provide some valuable insights in presentations, workshops, performances and conversations during QDEC23. We also heard you’d like to dance, to learn about accessibility and to gain new insights into contemporary choreography.
This conference will be held at the Thomas Dixon Centre in West End, Brisbane on Friday 5th May. Content will include practical dance workshops, panel conversations, performances and presentations by significant dance professionals. Topics will include Cultural safety, choreographic techniques, child safety, accessible dance teaching and pedagogical techniques. Delegates will experience challenges, support and a reminder of the joy of teaching dance.
We encourage all dance educators and teachers to participate in QDEC23 – not only as VITAL professional development, but also to interact with fellow teaching professionals in a relaxed, fun and inspiring environment. It’s a day you’ll remember for years. Program details will be released shortly – in the meantime, please lobby your principals, gather your teachers and register for QDEC23.
