Core Services

As Queensland’s peak body for dance, our primary role is to meet our members’ needs in your dance schools, businesses, activities, and events. Our core services are offered to all members, all year round.

FIRST NATIONS LEARNINGS

Ausdance QLD is committed to developing and promoting knowledge and resources to support Cultural safety for all dance industry workers.

We aim to encourage and develop relationships and respect with and for First Nations Elders, Traditional Owners and Community throughout Queensland.

We will also contract paid appropriate First Nations’ consultants to advise on process and Protocol for all Ausdance QLD events and services.

We extend these learnings to our membership and encourage all members to contact Ausdance QLD so we can also help in your understanding of First Nations alongside us.

ADVOCACY

As your peak body, Ausdance QLD is your voice to help support and guide the bigger issues and picture of the whole dance sector to other peak bodies and government.

In 2024, we will:

  • Develop and promote accreditation and compliance mechanisms to increase safety within the dance sector, with a particular focus on child safety and compliance with the National Principles of Child-Safe Organisations

  • Advocate for a greater understanding of First Nations Peoples within the broader dance community through actions, conversations, and strong First Nations Community relationships

  • Increase the dance sector’s relationships with education, health and wellness, and sports sectors

  • Build and maintain networks with local, state, and federal governments

  • Represent the needs of members to government and stakeholders (such as key funders or arts and industry peak bodies)

MEMBER RESOURCES & SUPPORT

Ausdance QLD exists to serve you in the myriad dance companies, activities, groups, and traditions you represent. In 2024, we’ll be here to guide our members with advice and resources. We will;

  • Ensure our members have appropriate local guidance in developing understanding of First Nations’ perspectives in their dance activities

  • Provide timely frontline advice, resources, and information for members about employment, career pathways, business, industrial relations, and workplace health & safety.

  • Coordinate events (live or online) with members, encourage member-led activities and facilitate inspirational professional experiences

  • Ausdance Educators QLD Subcommittee will develop and deliver professional development resources and opportunities for early, middle, and secondary level teachers in all schooling sectors

PANDEMIC & CRISIS RESPONSE

Ausdance QLD understands the critical importance of maintaining and supporting dance businesses.

In 2024 we will:

  • Provide (across all channels) timely and accurate information relating to members

  • Consult with members about major government policy decisions relating to state/national crises

  • Communicate relevant and accurate data or reports to governments and any relevant stakeholders

SAFEDANCE FOR KIDS

(SafeDance® Practice, Child Safety, Workplace Health & Safety)

Ausdance Qld has long been focused on supporting the health and wellbeing of all people engaged in the dance community under the banner of SafeDance®. Cultural safety (for First Nations Peoples), child safety, safe dance practice and workplace health & safety are vital for our sector’s sustainability.

As we enter 2024, child safety is the immediate priority of Ausdance QLD. More children participate in dance and cultural activities than in any other recreational activity in Queensland. Knowing this, it is vital we develop frameworks to ensure their safety and that we meet our national and international obligations to always protect children.

In support of this, Ausdance QLD will launch a compliance and accreditation framework to support our members and the broader dance community to address and comply with best practice as set out in the National Principles of Child-Safe Organisations.

In 2024, Ausdance QLD will create a SafeDance® working group of professionals to support improvements and the development of resources, training, and compliance systems around SafeDance®. Informed by First Nations perspectives, this group will address and improve capability in the following areas:

  • Safer children

  • Safer spaces

  • Safer workplaces

  • Safer bodies and minds

AUSPICING & FUNDRAISING ASSISTANCE

Supporting our members to raise funds through different channels (grants, sponsorship, crowdfunding, strategic fundraising) will increase the sector’s professional development and sustainability.

Auspicing is when Ausdance QLD is your ‘sponsor’ for a grant application. The service is required if you, your organisation, or group aren’t eligible to apply for a grant. If successful, Ausdance QLD is responsible for oversight of the financial administration of the grant. A formal agreement will be made between Ausdance QLD and the member outlining our responsibilities.

These services are available to all members.
