Creative Development - Working Title: Brisbane Festival & JWCOCA

An incubator for new creations at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts

In 2020, Brisbane Festival, with the support of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, will back bold new creations made by Queensland artists and companies.

Queensland artists are at the heart of Artistic Director Louise Bezzina’s new vision for Brisbane Festival. This new program at The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, running from April through September 2020, will create much-needed opportunities for our local performing artists to develop and present brave new work as well as connect with national and international presenters.

The selected projects will receive the following support

  • Up to $40,000 cash contribution to artists fees and other project costs.

  • Queensland regionally based artists can include an additional up to $12,000 in travel and accommodation costs (for Queensland regional artists only.)

  • Access to and support from the Brisbane Festival team, including a creative producer, marketing and technical advice, and brokering new opportunities and connections.

  • Up to four weeks in The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts (spaces available include the Performance Space, meeting room, rehearsal room). Basic room set up is included (additional equipment, crew, or outside normal business hours costs would need to be included in the project budget). Final venue costs would be negotiated as part of the short-listing process.

  • Contribution to the documentation costs to be negotiated as part of the short-listing process.
