Crossroad Arts | 2024 Regional Scholarships

Crossroad Arts presents a fantastic opportunity for regional Australian artists with disability to apply for scholarships of up to $2,000 to assist with travel and accommodation to attend their annual C.R.U.S.H theatre making intensive. This is for ages 15yrs + and for beginners to accomplished performers. All levels invited to apply.

 When:   Friday, 18 October to Sunday 20, October 2024. 

Time: 10-4pm

Where:  Senior Citizens Hall, 58 MacAlister Street, Mackay, QLD

Cost:   $90 for weekend (heavily subsidised).  Companion cards accepted.  Should cost be a barrier to participation, please contact us.

Post-pandemic, our consumption of art has changed. Thanks to years of being pulled in and out of performance spaces, our sector has found its footing in the film world, but are you struggling to translate?  Do you have filmed work you’d like to edit and produce?

In this workshop, you will explore the techniques involved in modifying your choreography for film and putting together a dance film. Tackle framing, storyboarding, terminology and moving your work from the physical space to the digital.

This workshop is suited to independent creatives, dance students, studio owners, educators, and choreographers.

Followed the recent, successful, joint program – Articulating Practice – Sapphire Coast last year in November, Critical Path and Gunpowder Trading Post is offering a week-long residency for a dance maker/choreographic artist at the Gunpowder Trading Post, Wolumla.

ABOUT GUNPOWDER TRADING POST
Gunpowder Trading Post (65 Scott Street, Wolumla NSW 2550) is a creative space & shared living space, standing on the unceded lands of the Djiringanj people, in Wolumla, Bega Valley NSW. ‘The Post’ has stood in Wolumla Village since 1886. This building has lived many lives, seen many occupants and has many stories to tell. The Gunpowder Trading Post is now home to two dance artists Paddy Meessmann & Beth Lane. They’re here to tread gently whilst they uncover this site’s histories & create something new. Continuing its history as a communal place – ‘The Post’ provides local & visiting artists a space to meet, practice, experiment & a community to share their work.

Dancenorth | ARTIST RESIDENCY IN THE TROPICS (A.R.T.)

Dancenorth’s Artist Residency in the Tropics (A.R.T.) Program offers an independent dance practitioner the opportunity to live and work in the spectacular environs of Tropical North Queensland – a landscape thoroughly conducive to creativity.

A.R.T. residents are afforded time and space away from the familiarity of their usual surroundings, enabling not just space for reflection, research and development, but entirely new experiences from which to draw creative inspiration.

The A.R.T. program has been a key part of Dancenorth’s programming since 2016, playing host to artists including Sarah Aiken, raymond blanco, Laura Boynes and Storm Helmore, Matthew Day, Holly Durant, Shona Erskine, Bridget Fiske, Thomas E.S. Kelly, Paea Leach, Nadia Milford, Bhenji Ra, Tara Samaya, Pippa Samaya, Zane Saunders, Second Echo Ensemble, Michael Smith and Ashleigh Musk and TheatreiNQ.

The 2023 residency will run for a minimum of two weeks and up to three-weeks. Residency dates will be negotiated with the successful applicant, based on studio availability. Timeframes for the residency are offered in negotiation with successful applicants, with availability in select periods across May, June and July 2023.

Applications for the 2023 A.R.T. program are currently open, and close midnight Monday, 6 February 2023.

Zen Zen Zo’s popular ACTOR’S DOJO has been running since 1996 and has been the training ground for many of Brisbane’s best actors. The training draws on Zen Zen Zo’s four specialty areas, developed over 25 years of studying with the founders of these forms and teaching them all over the world – The Suzuki Method of Actor Training, Viewpoints, Butoh & Composition.

The gifts of the ACTOR’S DOJO training for the actor or performer are stage presence, embodiment, deep focus, ensemble awareness, a rich imagination and a strong body‑voice. The ACTOR’S DOJO is also home to directors, dancers, teachers, musicians, performance poets & uni/school students. It is an inclusive & supportive space that welcomes anyone who wants to challenge themselves, develop their creativity, & engage in professional & personal transformation & growth.

Square-one is a studio space grant, offered in-kind for Indie Dance and Physical Theatre Artists to make and create. 

A chance for artists to kickstart their year creatively and find the beginnings of new inquiries, physicality and creative impulses.

We are championing community, creative exploration, peer-to-peer gathering and art form development by reducing the barriers to accessing creative spaces and dance-appropriate rehearsal studios. For 3 weeks in February 2023, Studio1 is offering FREE space to our creatives and professional makers of Brisbane. 

At the culmination of the 3 weeks, all artists involved are invited to gather, share, discuss and connect; building our community and networks.

2023 ANAT Synapse Residency

ANAT is calling for applications from artists and scientists for the prestigious Synapse Residency program, which, since 2004, has enabled research collaborations between more than 100 artists and scientists.

Residencies take place over 16 weeks full-time, the equivalent part-time, or, in discrete blocks over a longer duration during 2023. ANAT will pay participating artists a fee and contribute towards project material costs, accommodation expenses and return travel to the destination of the residency if required. The host organisation will provide in-kind access to staff expertise, space, equipment and resources, and will assist with disseminating outcomes at the conclusion of the residency.

 

Residencies are open to Australian artists (Australian citizens or permanent residents) working in any discipline and/or medium. To ensure a good fit between the artist and host organisation, a joint application must be submitted.  It is the responsibility of the artist to establish contact and to identify the nature of the proposed research collaboration prior to application.

As an accessible and inclusive arts organisation, ANAT enables artistic perspectives that reflect contemporary Australia. We especially encourage First Nations people to apply.

Arts Queensland (AQ) is seeking expressions of interest from Queensland-based First Nations artists, cultural workers and thought leaders to be part of a Queensland delegation to attend the Purrumpa First Nations Arts and Culture Gathering in Adelaide.

Being held from 31 October to Friday 4 November, Purrumpa will bring together First Nations Arts and Cultures stakeholders from around the country in celebration of the almost 50 years since the formation of the Aboriginal Arts Board in 1973 (Cultural Sensitivity Warning: link contains mention of persons who are now deceased)

Purrumpa will also plan and make recommendations to Commonwealth, States and Territories to amplify positive outcomes for all aspects of the First Nations arts and cultures sector.

Shaun Parker has developed a holistic 5 day program that provides participants with a rare opportunity to experience an insight into working with Shaun Parker & Company. Throughout the 5 days participants will learn repertoire from the company and undertake classes with company dancers in Contemporary dance, Hip hop, Yoga and Tutting. Shaun Parker will lead sessions for tasking, dance making and dramaturgy, giving participants a valuable insight into his artistic process.

LAUNCH will be held in Sydney from 9am-5pm each day from Monday August 22nd to Friday August 26th

The classes and training will take place at AMPA – Performing Arts Centre, 4/85-91 O’Riordan street, Alexandria, NSW.

The program is heavily subsidised, however, selected participants will need to fund their own transport and accommodation for this opportunity.

Queensland Ballet Academy is committed to nurturing the development of young male dancers, and we are delighted to offer our annual Boys Week during the upcoming April school holidays. 

Across this four-day program, dancers from 10 - 17+ years of age will have the opportunity to learn from Queensland Ballet Academy and Queensland Ballet’s esteemed male faculty, as well as guest experts. Classes will include ballet, male technique, repertoire and contemporary dance, as well as additional sessions in male fitness, sports psychology, body conditioning and a Q&A with our faculty.

Secondment Program - Dancenorth

The Dancenorth 2022 Secondment Program invites 25 young dance artists from Australia and New Zealand to participate in a full time secondment experience led by the Dancenorth Ensemble, with Amber Haines (Associate Artistic Director).

The 5-day program incorporates exploring various movement methodologies within elongated morning classes, creative workshops and task processes, environmental responsive sessions within the stunning North Queensland landscape, and interrogation of Dancenorth repertoire.

Community Experience Workshop Exchange: 11 - 13 April

COST

The program is free, but applicants must be able to cover the cost of all personal expenses including transport, flights and living expenses whilst in Townsville.

Ballerina Preparation Week - Queensland Ballet

A five-day workshop via the Queensland Ballet Academy for aspiring ballerinas.

Across the five-day program, dancers from 10 - 17+ years of age will have the opportunity to learn from Queensland Ballet Academy's world-class faculty, as well as guest industry experts. Classes will include ballet, ladies technique, repertoire and contemporary dance, as well as additional sessions about pointe shoe care, hair and stage makeup, sports psychology, body conditioning and a Q&A with our faculty.

In an immersive 4 hour session, dancers will have the opportunity to experience the creative processes of two of Australia's highly acclaimed choreographers - delving into their new works prior to their debut at QPAC in March with Australasian Dance Collective.
