indepenDANCE is a creative development and training platform for dance artists to engage in new ideas and creative dialogue, break boundaries and strengthen the independent dance community by challenging themselves through praxis. indepenDANCE challenges artists to think outside the square, shatter the square and question if the square is a square at all.
indepenDANCE offers access to space, resources, and daily training to create, explore, share, shatter and collaborate on new work in a creative development intensive, culminating in an open showing.

Workshop | Understanding and Managing Foot & Ankle Injuries in Dancers
Foot and Ankle workshop is a 3 day, in-depth exploration of the dancer's foot, as well as the influences of dynamic hip stability and functional core control on foot dynamics. It is perfect for dance educators, as well as Health Practitioners and high level dance teachers. You will leave armed with many tools and techniques to help dancers suffering with all types of foot injuries. Lisa has been working almost exclusively with dancers for the last 2 decades and has distilled the learnings from her extensive clinical work into this course.
Do dancers struggle with frequent foot and ankle injuries that put them out of action at the worst possible times?
What if there was a way to prevent many common injuries, and ensure the best possible healing of any current issues?
You will learn how to assess the dancer's foot in detail, effectively manage current foot injuries, and gain an in-depth understanding of how to avoid many preventable injuries in dancers. The course includes multiple taping techniques and rehabilitation guides to help dancers suffering with foot injuries recover as quickly as possible.

With Linda Gamblin, Sydney Dance Company’s Head of Training, at the helm, the Pre-Professional Year is designed as a one or two year program providing both unparalleled industry experience and a vocational qualification .
Bundanon | 2024 Residencies
A place charged with inspiration
Open to professional creatives from all disciplines, individually or in groups. Residents are hosted in purpose-built studios.
Bundanon supports new work, research and collaborations by artists and researchers from around the world. The program is structured through a series of partnerships with leading arts organisations and companies, cultural agencies and benefactors. From January 2024 there will be no direct costs associated with the Artists in Residence program.
Bundanon’s Artists in Residence program operates as an annual call out for applications.
Dancenorth | ARTIST RESIDENCY IN THE TROPICS (A.R.T.)
Dancenorth’s Artist Residency in the Tropics (A.R.T.) Program offers an independent dance practitioner the opportunity to live and work in the spectacular environs of Tropical North Queensland – a landscape thoroughly conducive to creativity.
A.R.T. residents are afforded time and space away from the familiarity of their usual surroundings, enabling not just space for reflection, research and development, but entirely new experiences from which to draw creative inspiration.
The A.R.T. program has been a key part of Dancenorth’s programming since 2016, playing host to artists including Sarah Aiken, raymond blanco, Laura Boynes and Storm Helmore, Matthew Day, Holly Durant, Shona Erskine, Bridget Fiske, Thomas E.S. Kelly, Paea Leach, Nadia Milford, Bhenji Ra, Tara Samaya, Pippa Samaya, Zane Saunders, Second Echo Ensemble, Michael Smith and Ashleigh Musk and TheatreiNQ.
The 2023 residency will run for a minimum of two weeks and up to three-weeks. Residency dates will be negotiated with the successful applicant, based on studio availability. Timeframes for the residency are offered in negotiation with successful applicants, with availability in select periods across May, June and July 2023.
Applications for the 2023 A.R.T. program are currently open, and close midnight Monday, 6 February 2023.

Studio1 | Square-one Studio Space Grant
Square-one is a studio space grant, offered in-kind for Indie Dance and Physical Theatre Artists to make and create.
A chance for artists to kickstart their year creatively and find the beginnings of new inquiries, physicality and creative impulses.
We are championing community, creative exploration, peer-to-peer gathering and art form development by reducing the barriers to accessing creative spaces and dance-appropriate rehearsal studios. For 3 weeks in February 2023, Studio1 is offering FREE space to our creatives and professional makers of Brisbane.
At the culmination of the 3 weeks, all artists involved are invited to gather, share, discuss and connect; building our community and networks.

Marten Bequest Scholarship
The Marten Bequest Scholarships offer talented young artists the chance to explore, study and develop their artistic gifts through travelling either interstate and/or overseas.
The scholarships provide financial support under the categories acting, architecture, ballet, instrumental music, painting, poetry, prose, sculpture and singing to help talented Australian artists achieve their dreams.
Scholarships are each worth $50,000, payable in quarterly instalments over two years.
Applications close: Tuesday 7 February 2023, 3pm AEDT (or earlier if application limit is met)
Amount: $50,000, paid in quarterly instalments over two years

Horizon Festival | Homegrown
Homegrown is an opportunity for established Sunshine Coast-based artists to be part of our 2023 festival program.
Homegrown is supported The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) — a partnership between the Queensland Government and Sunshine Coast Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

2023 ANAT Synapse Residency
ANAT is calling for applications from artists and scientists for the prestigious Synapse Residency program, which, since 2004, has enabled research collaborations between more than 100 artists and scientists.
Residencies take place over 16 weeks full-time, the equivalent part-time, or, in discrete blocks over a longer duration during 2023. ANAT will pay participating artists a fee and contribute towards project material costs, accommodation expenses and return travel to the destination of the residency if required. The host organisation will provide in-kind access to staff expertise, space, equipment and resources, and will assist with disseminating outcomes at the conclusion of the residency.
Residencies are open to Australian artists (Australian citizens or permanent residents) working in any discipline and/or medium. To ensure a good fit between the artist and host organisation, a joint application must be submitted. It is the responsibility of the artist to establish contact and to identify the nature of the proposed research collaboration prior to application.
As an accessible and inclusive arts organisation, ANAT enables artistic perspectives that reflect contemporary Australia. We especially encourage First Nations people to apply.

LJ Projects Teacher Professional Development
Run over a two day workshop LJ Projects will host artists delivering their practice in Dance Film, Choreography, Dance Theatre and Movement Language. Set over two full day workshops, we will host a range of international artists delivering workshops on their craft. This program offers practical workshops that allows participants to play within each discipline by creating their own choreography, filming a dance film, connecting to outdoor sites and dreaming up new tasks. EOI: Bursary to attend Purrumpa Arts and Culture Gathering
Arts Queensland (AQ) is seeking expressions of interest from Queensland-based First Nations artists, cultural workers and thought leaders to be part of a Queensland delegation to attend the Purrumpa First Nations Arts and Culture Gathering in Adelaide.
Being held from 31 October to Friday 4 November, Purrumpa will bring together First Nations Arts and Cultures stakeholders from around the country in celebration of the almost 50 years since the formation of the Aboriginal Arts Board in 1973 (Cultural Sensitivity Warning: link contains mention of persons who are now deceased).
Purrumpa will also plan and make recommendations to Commonwealth, States and Territories to amplify positive outcomes for all aspects of the First Nations arts and cultures sector.

Detour Fellowship | Dance Makers Collective
Detour is a new and urgent opportunity, supporting an independent dance artist, to mobilise and engage in a sustained program for their personal creative development, in a spirit of reciprocity, with five Australian dance companies.
Dance Makers Collective (Darug Country, Western Sydney, NSW), Dancenorth (Gurambilbarra and Yunbenun Country, Townsville, QLD), GUTS (Arrernte Country, Alice Springs, NT), Tasdance (Lutruwita Country, Launceston, TAS) and Tracks (Larrakia Country, Darwin, NT) invite a dance practitioner to spend two weeks with each company, in a self-directed residency, to explore their practice, connect with new landscapes and share with the communities we serve.
