Applications to audition for ADC's Pre-Professional Program 2025 are now open. 

Led by a team of industry professionals, the program provides excellence in training and performance and aims to cultivate creative, versatile and employable dance artists.

The nationally recognised qualification, CUA60120 Advanced Diploma of Professional Dance (Elite Performance), will be delivered by ADC in partnership with Australian Teachers of Dancing (RTO 31624).

Opera Australia is bringing a new production of The Ring Cycle to Brisbane in 2023, exclusive to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). An exhilarating adventure with men and maidens, gods and giants, dragons and dwarves. As greed and violence threaten to destroy the heavens and earth, a glimmer of hope rises from an unexpected source. 

This is Wagner’s Ring Cycle — the pinnacle of opera — a 15 hour epic performed over four nights. 

A spectacular new production by visionary Chinese director Chen Shi-Zheng, exploring Wagner's legendary tale through a futuristic lens. His global vision imagines a parallel universe where many cultures walk together. Towering, moving digital panels create an immersive virtual world. Astonishing costumes and props imagine an unknown future. 


Audition Information

 Opera Australia is seeking Dancers for its upcoming Brisbane season of The Ring Cycle – an exciting new production in partnership with Opera Queensland, Griffith University, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and QPAC, directed by Chen Shi-Zheng. 

AUDITION DATE: Saturday 15 July 2023, 2pm – 5pm 

AUDITION LOCATION: Thomas Dixon Centre, 406 Montague Rd, West End QLD 

Attendance is by registration - an invitation to attend the auditions will be 


Schedule

Dancers must be available for the entire rehearsal and performance period and may be required to travel interstate for studio rehearsals. 

Studio rehearsals commence on or about Monday 11 September 2023. 

Stage rehearsals commence in Brisbane from Monday 6 November 2023. 

Performances in Brisbane from Friday 1 December 2023 to Thursday 21 December 2023. 

Venue: Lyric Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Brisbane. 


Requirements

• Technically strong dancers with performance experience and skills in either contemporary / modern dance, contemporary indigenous dance or accomplished professional dancers with all-round ability.

• Dancers are sought from diverse ethnicities and all cultural backgrounds.

• Several female dancers are required as aerialists with experience performing at height with trapeze and harness.

• We are seeking dancers will explosive power, who may have a background in street dance, acrobatics,

martial arts, combat, circus or physical theatre.

• Male dancers must be comfortable with partnering and/or lifting.

• Dancers must be Brisbane-based.

The Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix (Brisbane Prix) brings the contemporary dance world together by engaging internationally acclaimed directors and contemporary dance professionals who are inspirational leaders in their field to educate and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of contemporary dance.
Young dancers, teachers and audience have the opportunity to connect and engage with these international leaders in contemporary dance during the last week of September in Brisbane, Australia each year.

The Brisbane Prix is open to young dancers aged (aged 15-22) from anywhere in the world. Open online video applications of maximum 5 minutes in ballet and contemporary are called for in May to June of each year. A  selection process results in approximately 90 of the most talented applicants being invited to the finals week in late September/early October in Brisbane Australia. 

The selected applicants participate in a weeklong (6 day) program of classical and contemporary dance classes, improvisation, choreography and repertoire with leading choreographers and coaches. An international panel of juror's view and coach participants throughout the week.

The week culminates in theatre performances of all young dancers performing solos of contemporary repertoire and their own creation/improvisation developed during the week.  The jury select finalists from both junior and senior categories to perform in a gala performance.  The jury select dancers who may receive cash scholarships to put towards progressing a professional contemporary dance career. Finalists and all participants have the opportunity to be offered short term and full-time placements or secondments at our leading partner schools or companies.

Established in 1939 by Australian performing arts pioneer Gertrude Johnson OBE, The National Ballet School (formerly National Theatre Ballet School) is one of Australia’s preeminent dance training institutions devoted to providing exceptional dance training to students of all ages.

The National Ballet School offers a suite of pre-professional dancer training including full-time accredited courses (Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Dance) and the part time Elite Bridging Program. Selection to all accredited and bridging courses is by audition.

The Greenhouse is a performance group for young people who have something to say about the world and their place in it.

The 2022 audition is to perform in a new full length work at Home of the Arts (HOTA), Underground Festival in July 2022.

Greenhouse is a contemporary performance ensemble for physical actors and dancers from ages 13 - 23.

Taught and facilitated by artists from award-winning company The Farm, the ensemble create performance works that take place inside and outside of the theatre.

The National Audition Tour, for the Australian Ballet School, is conducted during June-August each year, visiting major cities around Australia. Participants audition in 2021 for intake in 2022. The audition consists of a modified Classical class and a physical assessment. It is structured to assess a range of criteria, including coordination, musicality and physical suitability for the demands of The Australian Ballet School's programmes. In 2022 Sydney Dance Company's Pre-Professional Year is open to dancers that are Australian Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents and New Zealand Citizens only. Applicants must be turning 18 years or older in 2022 to be eligible to commence the course on 31 January 2022.

The first round of Pre-Professional Year auditions will be an online application process that includes a video submission. Successful first round applicants will be invited to a second round in-person audition at Sydney Dance Company Studios, Monday 20 September 2021 between 9am and 6pm.
