Creative Development - Emerging Female Classical Choreographer


The purpose of this initiative is to encourage and foster professional skills development for emerging female choreographers creating work in the classical and modern ballet genres. The initiative is for emerging to mid-career female choreographers with some experience at creating and staging their work.

Nominees must be Australian residents. The nominee must demonstrate a commitment to the classical form and/or working with classically trained dancers in the contemporary ballet form. Judgement will be made on the nominees’ existing body of work, not a single work.Nominees can nominate themselves

Nominees must have:

  • Prior professional choreographic experience

  • classical ballet training

  • be aged 21 or over

  • a current CV which demonstrates an active choreographic practice

The recipient will:

  • create an original work

  • the work will be created to music from a list of pieces curated by The Australian Ballet’s musical director, Nicolette Fraillon

  • the work will be a maximum of ten minutes

  • the work will be for a small ensemble (no solos or self-performed solo)

  • .You will be supported by the Sydney Opera House for the initial rehearsal period, followed by a further rehearsal period at The Australian Ballet in Melbourne, using TAB’s dancers
